My body of work from 2019 was largely defined by mural projects, and while there was consequently less time available to focus on illustrative work. Despite the inconvenience I by no means let drawing fall by the wayside. I spent many hours wherever I could steal them away between projects relentlessly pursuing improvements to my drawing. I did this via two symbiotic strategies. Firstly, I continued the life drawing practice form 2018. Additionally however, I began studying from several several drawing books, some contemporary, and some from as far back as the middle of the twentieth century. I have been mainly focused on the works by Andrew Loomis, Burne Hogarth, George Bridgman, James Gurney and Scott Robertson. Many of the sketches displayed above are the result of these studies, ranging from applied exercises to direct master copies.
